2009 Mid South Fair Youth Talent Contest

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/feb/12/mid-south-fair-be-held-desoto-civic-center-2009/

http://www.midsouthfair.org/

Video Images Productions has taped the Youth Talent contest at the Mid South Fair in Memphis for the last 7 years.

This year with the move to Desoto Civic Center in Mississippi, we will again be the official videographer for the event.

Starting with last years contest, we began a new editing procedure, which greatly enhanced the quailty of  the DVD.  We went directly from digital tapes to DVD, with every act going through the editing process, rather than just making a copy of unedited tapes.  This procedure takes more time to complete, but it produced a much improved quality DVD.

We had nothing but praise for the quality for 2008's DVDs.

Video Images Productions has been invited back for the 2009 edition of the Youth Talent Show and we hope to provide the same quality service in the new location, The Desoto Civic Center.

Wedding demo

We get asked quite often to show some of our previous work on weddings.

This is an edited version of several weddings over the past few years.  This video is less than 10 minutes long and shows some of the key parts of the ceremony and reception of typical weddings.

Notice the quality of the audio during the vows part of the wedding ceremony.  We use only high quality audio equipment in capturing the all important vows between the bride and groom.  Positioning of the main camera is always at the mercy of the clergy and the church rules as to their placement.

All video is all digital, all the time.

Elvis and me...introductions are in order

Ep_1_copy_6

My name is Johnnie Rodgers (J J ).  I am the owner of Video Images Productions.  I am also the chief camera operator.  The main video editor.  The clean up crew.  The.......well most everything else as well.

I started this business in 1985 and video taped my first wedding the same week.  Since that time I have covered over 1000 weddings.  I found that I processed a knack for wedding video production by capturing the bride, the groom, wedding party and family in a respectful and unobtrusive way.  I do not rush the  editing time I spend on each wedding, but give all the editing aspects of the production much thought and consideration of how to present the footage in way that brings a smile and even a tear or two to the viewer of the finished product.

I have worked at least once in almost all of the major wedding locations in this area.  Thus I am aware of the particular needs, highlights and even short comings of most churchs and other venues in regards to wedding coverage.

Although weddings are our main work, we do get involved in many other types of video production.

We produce photo to video montages for all types of events (wedding rehearsal dinners and receptions, anniversaries, birthdays, retirements, etc.), we are the official video company for the Mid-South Fair Youth Talent contest, as well as the Miss Alabama USA pageant and Miss Mississippi USA pageants.  We have for many years taped the two annual concerts for the West Tennessee Youth and Children's Choruses. As well we tape annual events for several churchs and businesses in the Memphis area.

Today, it seems that everyone is busy having their vhs and other older format tapes transferred to DVD so this has also become a daily job for us.  As well as tranferring older 8mm film to dvd to preserve family memories.

And yes, the "EP" in the photograph is really the real Elvis.

Why would I want to have a professional video of my wedding?

The telephone rang in my studio.  When I answered, a female voice asked if we were booked for a wedding on a date three months away. She said that we had come highly recommended to her and she hoped we were available.  I checked the calendar and found that we not booked on that date.  I told the caller that I would be happy to discuss with her or the bride our packages.

The caller explained that she was helping a friend who was to be the bride on that future date.  She said that the bride, who was a childhood friend had not originally wanted to spend the money on a video. Although the money for a video was available to her, she thought it would be better spent on other things.  Such as an additional side for the buffet, some more greenery for the reception and perhaps an ice sculptor.

The lady on the phone said that when she got married several years ago, that she felt much like her friend regarding a wedding video.  Why spend money on a video when she had several friends with video cameras who had said "shoot some video" at her wedding and reception and she wouldn't have to pay anyone to do it for her.  And she did not want some stranger poking a video camera in her face and asking a bunch of rude questions of her.

She said that had she only known what she does now, there would not have been any question about a video on her wedding day.  Her dad, who walked her down the aisle, passed away the next year.  And two other family members have also passed since her wedding and they were all at the wedding celebrating with her.  She did get some shots of those relatives, shaky, dark and out of focus,  from one of the volunteers with the video cameras at her wedding.

With two children now, and one of them a daughter, she says she would love to be able to show them a complete wedding video of the day she and their dad were married.

Anyway she said she has convinced her friend that it was well worth the expense to have her special day documented by a professional videographer.  That to be able to later view her dvd and see and hear all the sounds and sights at the event which she did not see or remember happening at all.

I assured her that we cover the wedding in a respectful and non obtrusive way.  We document the event and do nothing to cause events to occur, but prefer to only tape what occurs naturally at the celebration.  With over a thousand weddings behind us, we know what to look for and how to best cover all special events at the wedding in the best way.  We do not bother the guests by asking them questions with a camera stuck in their face.  Of course, if any guests would like to comment on camera to the bride and groom we would tape them and include it on the finished and edited dvd.

At that time the caller advised that she would get in touch with the bride and was sure that she would be calling for an appointment to come in and view some samples of our work and engage us to cover her wedding.

The caller, then asked if we could take her old footage and maybe enhance it and maybe edit it together in a sensible fashion.  I told her I would do my best to help her with that.
